For decades, I’ve walked an extraordinary — sometimes excruciating — path, driven by one core commitment: to leave every moment, every relationship, every life I touch better than I found it.

I have lived, studied, and practiced directly with some of the world’s greatest wisdom keepers — from Tibetan monasteries to India’s Kumbh Mela, from mind-to-mind transmissions with lineage holders such as HH 14th Dalai Lama to the grounded clarity of modern mindfulness pioneers like Jon Kabat-Zinn. I’ve also stood with Yogi Bhajan, Timothy Leary, Ram Dass (Richard Alpert), Pattabhi Jois, even 6 feet from the King of England and other spiritual leaders at a Ganges river sunset meditation in Rishikesh, India and wherever I'd fit into the "let's make life better" movement. I’ve had one-on-one conversations with Rick Rubin, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Lisa Bonet, Russell Simmons, Lou Reed, Charlie Sheen, Donna Karan, Michael Stipe of REM, architect Zaha Hadiid and Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine.

I’ve taught Cameron Diaz and Jenna Bush meditation and yoga and gave an essentials oil chest massage (as a state certified therapist) to Courtney Love in the Hollywood Hills (man, she was REALLY pulling the "poor me" card -was kinda funny!).

I was even featured on PBS in their Sacred Journey special, leading a group through the 2013 Maha Kumbh Mela — the largest human gathering on Earth — and invited back as a guest teacher for FOX TV’s Health Watch. I’ve guided corporate meditation programs for The American Heart Association, Canyon Ranch Resorts, and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

But none of that matters if you don’t know this:

Just weeks ago, I nearly died. A near-lethal virus. A nervous system collapse. Fourteen days on the street. Multiple near-death encounters. Family and community structures that I believed would hold me up … all gone.

What emerged on the other side was clarity, kindness, and a gratitude deeper than I’ve ever known. I saw — with searing truth — that the practices I had carried, taught, and refined for decades were not optional. They were life. They kept me alive.

Besides the life or death from this month. I've experienced violence, physical abuse and emotional humiliation -A LOT of it over my life. Let's be real. We've all suffered some F-d up stuff AND/OR doled it out on someone or something else. Some of that healed ...maybe most not.

My life has been up and down like anyone else's. I've done a lot of cool stuff and counted my blessing when I could along the way because most of the time (until I didn't) I STILL felt the pain of most of that violence as the ever present agitated, bleeding elephant in my room -wherever that was and with whoever was in my room with me. For decades.

No need to swim around in the pain other than to find the current that let's you let go and flow up stream. I'm not gonna shit you and insult you puking all my name dropping and brand hyping because I need you to think I'm cool therefore I'm legit. Nope.

Just being real that most of that "cool stuff" was "right time right place" BUT had that f-ing elephant of pain in the room crushing my ability to really enjoy the moment if at all AND sucking ALL the air out of the room for me and everyone in the room with me ...until it didn't.

We all have to have a heart to heart(s) with our elephant(s).

What I share with you is the same living framework that has helped me survive and thrive through unimaginable challenge -this month and over the course of a lifetime. Having those elephant heart to hearts (that IF I didn't, the elephant would have eventually crushed my ribs). Negativity and pain are a given. However, they don't have to kill your vibes of evolving into greater awesomeness either. Do they?

AND once one, you (if they can, YOU can!) WILL (if you stay inspired!) hit a very tangible tipping point of simplicity & emotional ease (leaning towards upbeat MOST of the time) in their, YOUR heart & focus ...other people's negativity or even the world's worst issues has barely any pull or trigger into agitation or heavier emotions & actions -ANYWHERE in your life. It's all still there.

However, it's within us all to just rarely if ever get triggered into letting go of feeling & trusting: "life is pretty f-ing awesome most of the time. AND it's definitely getting better" and "I'm NOT in denial that bad things happen and hurt and need urgent correction and I will pitch in whenever I can...

BUT I can also handle "negative or bad" -things, people or situations with concise positive action, calm ease & flow or high urgency and even joy because the negative or bad thing is just a thing and doesn't define me. I DEFINE ME. YOU DEFINE YOU. My life and me are as awesome as I choose it to be. Period.

You know that feeling, right? You were good enough in that moment on that day you could handle the "bad news" , do your best focused actions and still sleep at night. You had it once or twice at least!

Let's just help each other stay there more AND share it so it makes more for all of us ...why not?
